Spray starch. Grandma's simple stuff that she used to make everyone's shirts look and feel so nice and crisp.
I still use spray starch for ironing my family's dress shirts. But more importantly, I use spray starch for better handling of certain kinds of fabrics.
Some lightweights are just so much easier to cut and sew if they've had a bit of starch ironed into them. I recently sewed silk voile that was impossible without a bit of starch to make it behave. Same with super-drapey rayon.
And I've found that practically any fabric is easier to hem with a tiny rolled hemmer foot if you've sprayed and ironed starch into it first.
